Intel Xeon 6 6980P "Granite Rapids-AP" CPU to feature 128 cores and 500W TDP

Intel Xeon 6 specs: Granite Rapids up to 128 cores, Sierra Forest up to 288

Hardware leaker YuuKi_AnS reveals Intel’s plans for next-gen Xeon 6 series.

Leaked information has shed light on the upcoming next-gen Xeon series, revealing details about several Xeon 6 SKUs known to be part of either the Granite Rapids (not to be mistaken with AMD’s Granite Ridge) or Sierra Forest lineups. The former is set to utilize the P-Core architecture based on Redwood Cove cores with hyperthreading support. On the other hand, Sierra Forest will employ E-Cores based on Sierra Glen cores, lacking hyperthreading support.

YuuKi has disclosed some of the new parts, but most remain in qualification or engineering sample stages. Notably, the Sierra Forest SKU, set to launch in a 288 core configuration according to Intel, has yet to surface as a QS. Details regarding this SKU are scarce, except for its expected 500W TDP.

The Xeon 6 series is further divided into two packages and sockets. Intel has developed two engineering validation platforms: Beechnut City, featuring the LGA-4710 socket, and Avenue City, equipped with the LGA-7529 socket (pictured below). Both platforms are designed for dual-socket motherboards. Beechnut City appears limited to 350W TDP SKUs, supporting up to 16 channels per CPU, while the larger Avenue City supports 12 channels per CPU and accommodates 500W TDP SKUs.

The leaker has also provided images of both packages, albeit without detailed descriptions. However, it’s evident from the visuals that the package on the left features 3000 more pins and is significantly larger in size.

The Granite Rapids Xeon 6 6xxxP series is expected to peak at 128 Redwood Cove cores with a 500W TDP. Presently, this part is observed with clock speeds ranging from 2.0 to 3.2 GHz, although the precise size of the L3 cache remains unknown, but it is worth adding that even the 56-core variant already boasts 288 MB of L3 cache.

Intel has stated that the Xeon 6 series will debut this year, with the Sierra Forest lineup set for a second-half launch and Granite Rapids following shortly after.
