AMD Ryzen 9050 "Strix Point" APU with 12 cores spotted on Geekbench

AMD Strix Point engineering sample

Over at Geekbench there is an entry featuring AMD yet unreleased processor.

The APU, featuring an OPN (product) code of 100-000000994-14_N, is part of AMD’s upcoming deployment of the Strix Point processor series. This information is confirmed by Family 26 and Model 32, as per the Geekbench listing. Essentially, we’re looking at one of the first AMD Ryzen 9050 CPUs on Geekbench.

As expected, the CPU offers 12 cores, all of which are Zen5, with four being of the Zen5 dense variant, according to leaks. However, this particular model doesn’t seem to be a retail sample, as it only reaches a maximum clock speed of only 1.4 GHz (2.0 GHz). It’s uncertain whether the benchmarking software couldn’t fully utilize the clock speed, or if this sample isn’t intended to be fast.

What we can confirm is that it has a relatively low single-core score of 1217 points. However, its multicore score is relatively high considering it was only running at 1.4 GHz. For comparison, the Ryzen 9 7940HS scores around 1995/11838 respectively.

Regarding leaks, AMD is reportedly gearing up to release its Ryzen 9050 series by the end of this year. The Strix Point series is just one aspect of AMD’s strategy for the mobile segment. Additionally, there’s a Halo version expected to feature 16 Zen5 cores and a significantly more powerful GPU, with up to 40 Compute Units. In comparison, the Strix Point series offers 16 CUs, already an improvement over Phoenix/Hawk Point, which is limited to 12 CUs. Unfortunately, this particular benchmark does not evaluate graphics performance.

It’s worth noting that AMD is highly likely to adopt the Strix Point series for its Ryzen Z2 series for mobile handhelds. These new devices would not only benefit from the advantages of a faster CPU architecture but also benefit from more advanced GPUs. For all we know, this leak may also be showing such a chip.
