Samsung intros world's first 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X memory with 32GB capacity

Samsung announces LPDDR5X memory with 10.7 Gbps bandwidth, will be mass-produced in second half of this year

The fastest low-power memory.

The new LPDDR5X memory developed by Samsung is designed for PCs, accelerators, servers, and automobiles. The company claims that this memory technology is 25% faster, offers 30% more capacity, and has 25% higher power efficiency compared to the previous generation.

The new memory utilizes 12 nm process technology, which helped downsize the LPDDR module, making it the smallest among existing solutions, according to Samsung. This new memory technology addresses the growing demand for low-power and high-performance memory chips. While its primary focus is the mobile market, Samsung’s EVP claims it will also extend to servers, automobiles, and accelerators, without specifying any particular devices.

The new memory will ship with a speed of 10.7 Gbps and will be available with up to 32GB capacity per module. Devices requiring lots of RAM, such as those for generative AI, will benefit from this capacity, making it easier to store AI models. This will be particularly important for systems using APU/NPUs for generative AI and lacking a discrete GPU, as larger memory capacities can store more advanced models.

Samsung further claims a 25% increase in power efficiency over the previous generation, without specifying whether that refers to LPDDR5 or LPDDR4. The company confirms that mass production of LPDDR5X-10700 memory will commence in the second half of this year, coinciding with the expected unveiling of next-gen SoCs by AMD and Intel.
