AMD celebrates its 55th anniversary

AMD is now 55 years old

On May 1st, AMD marked the 55th anniversary since its founding by Jeremiah Sanders and other co-founders in 1969. For graphics card enthusiasts, the most important date in AMD’s history is July 24, 2006, when the company acquired ATI in a $5.6 billion deal. It wasn’t until August 2010 when AMD finally launched its first AMD Radeon GPU, marking the end of the ATI brand.

Another significant date is March 2nd, 2017, the day the first AMD Ryzen CPU was released. At this point, we are just a month away from the introduction of Ryzen 9000 at this point. Time flies, for sure; I still remember leaking the Ryzen brand.

  10. 2023: AMD launches Ryzen Z1 for handheld gaming console

For the 55th anniversary, AMD utilized new AI technologies to restore some old photos, employing colorization and upscaling techniques. Additionally, a 14-year-old video commissioned for the 40th anniversary has been restored using video upscaling software. The video features Jensen Huang himself, who was an AMD employee at some point in his early career.

Unlike its 50th anniversary, there are no special edition hardware releases this time around. However, it’s possible that we might still get some new hardware later this year with the release of Ryzen 9000 and other products.
