PlayStation 5 Pro GPU clock details
Digital Foundry claims PlayStation 5 Pro GPU will run at 2.35 GHz.
Sony PlayStation 5 Pro, codenamed “Trinity,” sees a new leak as revealed during a podcast from Digital Foundry. The team discusses new materials originating from the Sony Developer Portal, which the editors have gained access to.
According to new information, the PS5 Pro GPU is once again confirmed to feature 30 WGP (Work Group Processor) or 60 (Compute Unit) configuration. The media mentions the exact configuration featuring two Shader Engines and reveals a small update for the console’s GPU clock.
Contrary to what was initially thought, the maximum GPU clock is 2.35 GHz instead of 2.18 GHz. This clock speed is listed as the absolute maximum clock, which may not be reachable at all times. This may explain why the initial compute figures mentioned a 33.5 TFLOPS figure instead of the 36.1 TFLOPS that this new leak would suggest.
It is also revealed that the GPU will have access to larger caches, with the GLOV cache specifically increased from 16KB to 32KB on the Pro variant of the console to boost ray tracing acceleration.
The PS5 Pro does not have a release date yet; however, it is believed that the new gaming console will be unveiled in November, just in time for this year’s holiday season.
