Qualcomm Snapdragon X outclasses Intel Alder Lake in video playback time

One of the main features of the upcoming Qualcomm X Series will be battery life. The ARM-based processors may set a new baseline for what modern power-efficient chips are capable of. This will force AMD and Intel to focus on battery efficiency even more.

Based on internal testing, Dell is estimating that the Qualcomm X Series will deliver 68% to 98% better battery life. The XPS 13 Plus laptop will almost double its battery life during video playback (local file).

The company claims that Snapdragon-based laptops will deliver 16.8 to 29.9 hours, depending on the screen type. To be precise, the FHD+ option at 29.6 hrs, QHD at 21.9 hrs, and OLED at 16.8 hrs. That’s respectively a 91%, 98%, and 68% improvement in battery life compared to the Intel Alder Lake-P chip.

Officially, Qualcomm is claiming 25+ hours of continuous video playback. In local video playback, the company is estimating 43% longer battery life compared to Intel Core Ultra CPUs.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X much cheaper than Intel CPUs

The XPS 13 laptop equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X will be cheaper to build compared to Intel, at least the processor alone will contribute to lower price.

Dell is upgrading its Dell XPS 13 Plus line codenamed Tributo to Qualcomm processors. The document outlines the full production plan, its cost and challengers. One of the highlighted parts confirms that Qualcomm chips are to cost much less than Intel Raptor Lake-P series did.

Based on the 2023 estimates, Dell XPS with 10-core Nuvia (Snapdragon X Plus) would cost 145 USD, while the predecessor based on Core i7-1360P was valued at 293 USD (as listed in March 2023). Thus, the CPU alone is a big contributor to the lower price of components, which can be used for other parts.

Dell is aiming at $1199 SAPP (Selling, Administrative, and General Expenses) with their XPS 13 Plus system. The company expects $1820 TRU (Total Revenue Units) and 11% TM (Total Margins) on this product. If it launched at $1199, it would match the Apple MacBook Air price at launch.
