New GPU dock with 550W power supply and OCuLink now available in China
Chinese companies Metaphyuni and Gzosmeta are introducing their jointly developed product: an external GPU dock with support for OCuLink.
There are plenty of solutions already on the market, some of higher quality and others catering to the premium market. The new product, called EG01C, is not meant to be overwhelmingly expensive, and it comes with two important features.
External GPUs are typically connected either through USB4/Thunderbolt connections or by utilizing a standard known as OCuLink. The latter enables 64GB/s of bandwidth, which is higher than the previously mentioned technologies (up to 40 GB/s). This is why many enthusiasts, gamers, and AI researchers now tend to choose OCuLink.
In China, the popularity of this standard has grown massively, especially with the release of new Lenovo ThinkPad laptops which come equipped with the so-called “TGX” connector. In reality, that’s nothing else than OCuLink, and even the company responsible for the EG01C confirms it works with these laptops.
The company came up with their newly designed OCuLink connector, which can be plugged and unplugged over 10K times. Also, instead of the manual locking mechanism, it uses an automatic one which will fix the cable in place.
Another interesting feature of this particular dock is the integrated power supply. It uses a server-grade CRPS (Common Redundant Power Supply) standard, which means the supply can be easily removed. Not that anyone should do that when the dock is in use, but this means it can be upgraded and replaced with a more powerful unit later. By standard, it comes with a 550W supply with 80+ Gold Platinum power efficiency.
The bundle comes with all required cabling and connectors and weighs 2.08 kg without the supply. The whole dock measures 23x9x75 cm and can host even the largest GPUs. This OCuLink GPU dock will cost 899 RMB (125 USD) and is currently available at 649 RMB (90 USD) for a limited time. This price includes the power supply.
