Corsair launches its flagship SSDs based on PCIe Gen5 specs

Ready for Intel & AMD latest platforms.

The MP700 PRO SE is designed to work seamlessly with Intel 14th Gen Core and AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs on the PCIe Gen5 enable platforms. The Gen5 interface support is not mandatory and the storage is backwards compatible with Gen4 motherboards, but at that point one might ask what’s the reason to pay extra. And yes, the MP700 PRO SE is expensive.

First let’s look at the improvements compared to the MP700 PRO non-SE, which was released last year. The storage is indeed faster (sequential speeds) if we go by Corsair’s numbers:

  • MP700 PRO SE: 14,000 MB/s read & 12,000 MB/s write
  • MP700 PRO: 12,400 MB/s read & 11,800 MB/s write
  • MP600 PRO XT: 7,100 MB/s read & 6,800 MB/s write

The new SSDs will be available in three variants, two of which feature optional passive cooler or liquid cooing block. The latter option is currently also the most expensive.

Corsair confirms that MP700 PRO SE from Hydro X series will fit standard 1/4″ fittings. It is meant for power users who already have existing loops and want to cool their storage with minimal changes to their liquid cooling loops. Corsair is not saying what cooling capacity is required, but it is typically around 10 watts.

Speaking of money, these SSDs are costly with the following prices.

  • MP700 PRO SE 4TB PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe M.2 SSD: $629.99
  • MP700 PRO SE Hydro X Series 4TB PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe M.2 SSD: $639.99

The MP700 PRO SE with Air Cooler version will be released in June, the models listed above are now available.
