AMD to introduce Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F tomorrow: Zen4 AM5 CPUs without integrated graphics

AMD advertises a graphics-free Ryzen 8000F with… RDNA3 graphics

The Hawk Point desktop APU without graphics launches globally tomorrow.

As expected, AMD is introducing its Ryzen 8000F series based on a mobile APU design for desktops. This release follows the launch of the 8000G series, which combined Zen4/Zen4c and RDNA3 graphics into a single processor, eliminating the need for discrete graphics. However, the Ryzen 8000F will, in fact, require such graphics.

This is not the first AMD AM5 processor lacking graphics; AMD has already introduced the Ryzen 5 7500F, which may end up a better overall CPU for gaming. For those who prefer something different, such as access to Ryzen AI (XDNA), may consider the 8-core Ryzen 7 8700F instead.

The slides for tomorrow’s launch list NPU, CPU, and GPU for some reason. However, the latter is not present (enabled) on the die, which means this advertisement may be considered misleading.

Two models are being announced, including the 8-core Ryzen 7 8700F and the 6-core Ryzen 5 8400F, both featuring Zen4 architecture. However, the latter seemingly based on the smaller Hawk Point silicon, which lacks the XDNA processor, hence, no access to NPU processing.

AMD has already confirmed that the 8700F will boost up to 5.0 GHz, while the 8400F should feature a 4.7 GHz clock. This is respectively 100 MHz and 300 MHz slower than the 8700G and 8500G models.

A listing from Amazon revealed that AMD is aiming for $299 and $189 pricing for these CPUs, which is set to be competitive against Intel Core i5-14400F and Core i5-13400F, currently retailing at $200 and $185 respectively. Obviously, this would suggest that leaked Amazon pricing may not be correct.

AMD will launch these new AM5 CPUs tomorrow, so expect an update on official pricing and hopefully some reviews.
