AMD Strix Point as fast as Ryzen 7 7700X
A new leak featuring a mobile processor with Zen5 architecture puts it just about higher than desktop Zen4 CPUs.
The AMD Engineering Sample 100-000000994-38 isn’t new to VideoCardz users. We already covered this sample last month when it leaked onto the Geekbench database. As we approach the introduction of AMD’s new Zen5 series at Computex, more samples are being used for various tests, including Blender benchmarking. For all we know, these could be AMD’s own tests before they are presented on an official slide later.
In the Blender CPU rendering test, the Strix Point APU with 12 cores ends up being faster than the 8-core Ryzen 7 7700X. The difference is within the margin of error, and since only two benchmarks were conducted, there is still the matter of power settings and cooling, which can heavily influence the final results, especially for laptops. However, it’s shown that the APU scores 270.92 points, also better than the Ryzen 9 3900X or Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

The CPU alone will be a significant update for AMD’s mobile APU series. The Strix Point is said to incorporate four Zen5 and eight Zen5c (dense) cores into a single monolithic die. There are also updates for the graphics, but thus far, there are no tests of the integrated GPU, which is said to feature up to 16 Compute Units. The new series will also feature an updated NPU unit offering 3x higher AI acceleration compared to Hawk Point APUs.

An announcement is currently expected at Computex 2023 during AMD’s opening keynote. AMD is supposedly renaming the series to Ryzen AI 100 series, which may also see a departure from previous H/HS/U branding in favor of one HX SKUs with configurable TDP between 15 to 45W.
