Ryzen AI 370 HX ES tested
AMD Strix Point in leaked benchmarks.
At Computex, a attendee got hands-on experience with ASUS’ upcoming A14 TUF Gaming laptop, showcased at the ASUS booth. This laptop, powered by the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, was confirmed through the datasheet as displayed next to the demo system. However, it’s worth noting that the system available for testing wasn’t using the final retail version of the Strix Poitn APU, but rather an engineering sample identified by its SKU: 100-0000009934-37.
This engineering sample features a 4+8 configuration of Zen5/Zen5c cores. AMD has now confirmed that only two Strix SKUs will be released in July, and only one of them will feature such a configuration, namely the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (we are still getting used to this name).
According to the screenshot, the CPU scored 798.6 points in the single-thread benchmark and 8893.6 points in the multi-threaded test. We made a quick comparison of the alleged Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 SKU to one of our own tests featuring the Ryzen 9 7940HS running in a 54W TDP configuration (Minisforum UM790 Mini-PC):
The last-gen Zen4 processor was easily outperformed by 12.9% in single-threaded and 25% in multi-threaded performance, respectively. However, it should be noted that many Phoenix/Hawk Point APUs may perform worse in this test.
The CPU-Z benchmark may not be AMD’s strong point, and this score is easily surpassed by 13th and 14th Gen Core-H series SKUs, especially in the Core i9 tier. Yet, this shows a generation uplift, no doubt, and visible improvement, especially in multithreading, thanks to the addition of extra Zen5c cores.
The first laptops featuring Strix Point APUs are said to be launching next month, so expect more accurate data by that time.
