AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT drops to $469 for the first time

The cheapest RX 7800 XT costs $469

A new pricing barrier has been breached.

The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT made its market debut in September 2023, hitting shelves with a price tag of $499. Equipped with a full Navi 32 GPU boasting 3840 Stream Processors, it also comes packed with 16GB of GDDR6 memory over a 256-bit bus. However, its position in the market has been strongly impacted by the arrival of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE, which entered the global market in January, offering a price point of around $549.

This competition along with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 SUPER update seems to have led to some adjustments in the pricing strategy for the RX 7800 XT, with retailers now offering it at more competitive rates. Newegg is currently selling the Radeon RX 7800 XT for $468.99, marking the first time it has been available at such a reduced price. Interestingly, this deal isn’t being offered through the official Newegg storefront but rather via their eBay store. This price drop places the RX 7800 XT $30 below the AMD’s suggested retail price (MSRP) and $50 below the MSRP set by PowerColor for their custom model, the Hellhound variant.

AMD has been quicker to shake up the pricing of the Radeon RX 7700 XT, tweaking it down to $419 lately. Meanwhile, the RX 7800 XT has been slow to see any price drops. That might be because retailers were selling the 7800 XT way faster than the 7700 XT – up to a factor of 10 as shown by some German retailers.

But now, with the 7700 XT going for less than $400 in some stores and 7800XT has been seen at $480 already, so the gap is shrinking fast. Looks like AMD might need to rethink their pricing to keep up with the changing demand.
